What We Offer

OSTEOPATHY

The concepts behind osteopathy are based on the idea that the body has a natural self healing capability. Dis-ease or dysfunction within the body, whether it is musculo-skeletal or not, reduces the efficiency of the whole. For your body to work well its structure must also work well. Efficient interaction of the structure and the function of the body will ultimately provide the optimum environment for good health.

Osteopaths use a system of diagnosis, taking of a thorough case history and examination process to detect damaged or injured parts of the body. Treatment will use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase joint mobility, relieve muscle tension, enhance blood supply and nerve innervations. All of which help your body’s own healing mechanism.

CRANIAL OSTEOPATHY

Cranial osteopathy is a gentle, safe and effective approach to treatment of a wide range of problems. It is the name given to a subtle and refined approach to osteopathy that follows all the same principles and it is used throughout the body not just in the head. Cranial osteopaths use a highly developed sense of touch to feel subtle changes of tension and issue quality in the living anatomy of the whole body and to diagnose areas of dysfunction.

The osteopath is often drawn to areas in the body that have been affected by past events, such as old accidents and injuries. The body may have learned to compensate for a traumatic event or injury and the patient may be unaware that there is anything wrong, but the effects may still be present and relevant to current symptoms. Cranial osteopathic treatment is very gentle and relaxing. During the treatment, some people are aware of different sensa9ons from mild tension to feelings of relaxation. Other people feel nothing at all during treatment but are aware that they feel very different later. Most people become deeply relaxed during treatment and it is not uncommon for people to fall asleep.

ADVICE

Generally, Osteopathy requires a few sessions to fully understand the problem and to help fully restore the body to where it would like to be. We may only see a patient once a week in the early stages and even less so as the injury heals, so a big part of the treatment is what is happens away from the clinic. It is estimated that 40-50% of our symptoms are due to social factors and our environment within which we live. So stress, overwork, poor diet, lack of exercise all have a huge impact on us and our bodies. I will give you advice on how to manage this area in as realistic a way as possible to help reduce the likelihood of you requiring further treatment. This advice may range from a simple hot/cold compress or very specific exercise to a recommended pilates class or a change in your work pattern, all of which in someway will help reduce your symptoms.
